Loosely patterned from an antique prayer rug, Songhai draws its name and presence from one of African antiquity’s largest states. Timbuktu, at one point the heart of the empire and a beacon of enlightenment, was a center for cultural confluence — a shining North Star for Berber caravans and European merchants alike. Songhai is a ballad to this tradeway of legends, with stripes and feathered ribbons as lyrics in harmony.
