TAKARA

Takaramono are sacred Japanese treasures, each representing a type of luck. Often woven into kimonos, they endow the wearer with protection, wealth, knowledge, and other good fortunes. Traditionally, there are twenty takaramono, but treasures may be added or subtracted depending on the pattern. Block-printed by hand with a subtle metallic ink, Takara’s treasures incorporate organic items such as cloves and coral, divine symbols like the hat and cloak of invisibility, practical man-made tools like merchants’ weights, and auspicious aristocratic objects such as fans, scrolls and purses.
