Regarded as sacred, Nuphar – the water-lily – transcends its murky aquatic origins, sprouting up above the depths to lift its shining face toward the summer sun. At night, the flower closes its eye to the darkness, seeming to sink back into oblivion. It reveals itself again in the morning as dawn breaks across the still black water, with only an occasional pond bug skating silently on the glassy surface. Adapted from a 19th century English textile, Nuphar celebrates this awakening of life; soft and strange lyrical shapes are printed by hand in colors marking moments of a new day.
