Synonymous with the Tuscan landscape, poppies can lay dormant for up to 80 years before blooming. In Roman myth, they symbolized peace and were given as offerings to Somnus, the god of sleep. Across the ancient Mediterranean, they were associated with luxury — opium poppies were exchanged as currency for silver, gold, ivory and other precious objects. Woven in pure silk, Papavero recalls the floral brocades that Renaissance families counted among their most valuable possessions.
