Tulu takes its cues from an iconic style of Turkish carpet known for its substantial, shaggy pile and heavy weight. They were originally used as bedcovers to protect from the cold, and are noted for their minimalistic, tribal arches. We were told by a reputable rug dealer in Istanbul that the folk-like animal heads scattered about referenced legend -- of a tribe of men who turned into wolves -- and while we haven't been able to validate that from any other antique textile experts, we liked the idea of that myth, regardless.
